What is a MAC address?<\/h3><\/div>\r\n \t\t\t

A Media Access Control (MAC) address is a unique identifier for a device or network adapter on a network. It’s also known as a physical or hardware address. Unlike an IP address<\/a>, the MAC address doesn’t generally change when traveling to a new location (although there are exceptions<\/a>). Computers with multiple connections have a unique MAC address for each of their Ethernet as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapters.<\/p>\n

MAC addresses are 12-character alphanumeric values broken into six groups of two\u00a0hexadecimal<\/a> digits. Those groups can be stylistically separated by hyphens, colons, or spaces, or not separated at all. The first three groups together make up the device’s organizationally unique identifier<\/a> (OUI) which can be used to identify the manufacturer.<\/p>\n

    Finding your MAC Address in Network Settings<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The\u00a0Network\u00a0<\/b>screen is the place you come to for everything that involves your console\u2019s ability to connect to Xbox Live, play multiplayer games, and troubleshoot general network performance issues. To get to the\u00a0Network\u00a0<\/b>screen:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Press the\u00a0Xbox<\/b>\u00a0button\u00a0on your gamepad to open the guide.<\/li>\n
    2. Select\u00a0Settings<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    3. Select\u00a0All Settings<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    4. Select\u00a0Network<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    5. Select Advanced settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    6. Select IP settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    7. Your Xbox One has two MAC addresses listed there, a Wired MAC<\/strong> and a Wireless MAC<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      \n \t\t\tIs the device brand new?<\/span> \t\t\t \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

      \n \t\t\t\t\tA new, freshly opened Xbox One that has never connected to the internet before may try to run a system update as soon as it is turned on. This process requires an internet connection and cannot be skipped. \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

      \n \t\t<\/p>\n

      You are unable to view your MAC address during a forced system update. If you are unable to complete such an update (most likely due to lack of internet connection) and you need to find the MAC address during this process, try this\u00a0workaround:<\/p>\n

      1. Proceed through System Startup until it fails.<\/li>\n
      2. Select the “Fix It” option to attempt to diagnose the connection issue.<\/li>\n
      3. You will be brought to a screen prompting you to manually set up the connection. This screen lists both your wireless and wired MAC addresses.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          1. Turn on your Playstation 4 without any disk in the drive and wait for the menu to pop up.<\/li>\n

          3. Select the\u00a0System<\/strong> icon under the\u00a0Settings<\/strong> menu.<\/li>\n

              3. On this screen, you should be able to see the MAC address listed as “Ethernet Address<\/strong>” or “Hardware Address<\/strong>.” A MAC address may have letters and\/or numbers and will be in the format 00:00:00:00:00:00.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                Finding your MAC Address on a Roku device<\/strong><\/p>\n

                1. Ensure that you have a compatible Roku player with an Ethernet port. The Roku 3 is the most recent Roku that offers this feature.<\/li>\n
                2. Locate your Roku’s wired MAC address. This can be found on either the side or bottom of your player, or on the box you received it in. If you are unable to locate the MAC address that way, open the home screen on your Roku from your TV and then go to\u00a0Settings<\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0Network<\/strong>. The MAC address may have letters and\/or numbers and will be in the format 00:00:00:00:00:00.\n

                  Finding your MAC Address on a Windows 11 PC<\/strong><\/p>\n

                  1. Open the Windows Settings<\/strong> app (<\/i><\/strong>). One way to do this is to hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and tap I (<\/i><\/strong>+I<\/strong>).<\/li>\n
                  2. Navigate to the Network & Internet > Ethernet<\/strong> settings <\/strong>section. One way to do this is to use the Find a setting<\/strong> search box to search for “ethernet”.

                    1. Open the Wi-Fi menu in the upper-right corner of the screen by clicking the antenna icon (<\/i><\/strong>). Select Wi-Fi Settings…<\/strong>.

                    2. Select Network<\/strong> from the navigation column on the left, then select your<\/em> Ethernet Adapter. Mine was called “Thunderbolt Ethernet”, but if you have a built-in Ethernet port or a Belkin docking station (for example), yours might say something else. Additionally, yours may not yet say “Connected”.
