It&#8217;s also known as a physical or hardware address. Unlike an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/kb\/article\/finding-your-ip-address\/\">IP address<\/a>, the MAC address doesn&#8217;t generally change when traveling to a new location (although there are <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/guide\/security\/wi-fi-privacy-secb9cb3140c\/web\">exceptions<\/a>). Computers with multiple connections have a unique MAC address for each of their Ethernet as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapters.<\/p>\n<p>MAC addresses are 12-character alphanumeric values broken into six groups of two\u00a0<a title=\"Hexadecimal\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hexadecimal\">hexadecimal<\/a> digits. Those groups can be stylistically separated by hyphens, colons, or spaces, or not separated at all. The first three groups together make up the device&#8217;s <a title=\"Organizationally unique identifier\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Organizationally_unique_identifier\">organizationally unique identifier<\/a> (OUI) which can be used to identify the manufacturer.<\/p>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\"><h3>Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S<\/h3><\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Navigate to the\u00a0<strong>Settings\u00a0<\/strong>page<\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<strong>Network<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<strong>Advanced Settings<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Under\u00a0<strong>IP Settings,\u00a0<\/strong>the MAC address will be listed next to\u00a0<strong>Wired MAC<\/strong> on the right-hand side of the screen<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\"><h3>Xbox One<\/h3><\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p><strong>Finding your MAC Address in Network Settings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<b>Network\u00a0<\/b>screen is the place you come to for everything that involves your console\u2019s ability to connect to Xbox Live, play multiplayer games, and troubleshoot general network performance issues. To get to the\u00a0<b>Network\u00a0<\/b>screen:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the\u00a0<b>Xbox<\/b>\u00a0button\u00a0on your gamepad to open the guide.<\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<b>Settings<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<b>All Settings<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<b>Network<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Advanced settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>IP settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Your Xbox One has two MAC addresses listed there, a <strong>Wired MAC<\/strong> and a <strong>Wireless MAC<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--alert  hts-messages--withtitle hts-messages--withicon \"   >\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">Is the device brand new?<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t\tA new, freshly opened Xbox One that has never connected to the internet before may try to run a system update as soon as it is turned on. This process requires an internet connection and cannot be skipped.    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \/.ht-shortcodes-messages -->\n    \t\t<\/p>\n<p>You are unable to view your MAC address during a forced system update. If you are unable to complete such an update (most likely due to lack of internet connection) and you need to find the MAC address during this process, try this\u00a0workaround:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Proceed through System Startup until it fails.<\/li>\n<li>Select the &#8220;Fix It&#8221; option to attempt to diagnose the connection issue.<\/li>\n<li>You will be brought to a screen prompting you to manually set up the connection. or &#8220;<strong>Hardware Address<\/strong>.&#8221; A MAC address may have letters and\/or numbers and will be in the format 00:00:00:00:00:00.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\"><h3>Roku<\/h3><\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p><strong>Finding your MAC Address on a Roku device<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Ensure that you have a compatible Roku player with an Ethernet port. The Roku 3 is the most recent Roku that offers this feature.<\/li>\n<li>Locate your Roku&#8217;s wired MAC address. This can be found on either the side or bottom of your player, or on the box you received it in. If you are unable to locate the MAC address that way, open the home screen on your Roku from your TV and then go to\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">Settings<\/strong>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">Network<\/strong>. One way to do this is to hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and tap I (<strong><i class=\"fab fa-windows \" ><\/i><\/strong>+<strong>I<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to the Network &amp; Internet &gt; <strong>Ethernet<\/strong> <strong>settings <\/strong>section.
