Microsoft Stream<\/a> is a M365 cloud application for creating and editing videos. It is also the platform to access Teams meeting recordings and other videos shared through Teams.<\/p>\n \t\t

When a meeting has been recorded, Teams adds a meeting summary \u201ccard\u201d to the meeting chat that includes a link to the recording and the auto-generated transcript once that recording has finished processing.<\/p>\n

To see all your recordings in one place, including those for meetings you attended or were shared with you, go to Microsoft Stream<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Where are my Microsoft Teams recordings stored?<\/h3><\/div>\r\n \t\t\t

Meeting recordings are stored in OneDrive and Teams, both of which use SharePoint Online behind the scenes.<\/p>\n

If you record a normal, scheduled Teams meeting, that recording will be saved to a Recordings<\/em> folder in your OneDrive. All other meeting participants are granted read access to that file. You can manage this file like other content in OneDrive<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you record a channel-based meeting, such as a meeting in a class team, that recording will be saved to the team channel\u2019s Files<\/em> tab in a Recordings<\/em> folder. All the members of the team will have access to the meeting recording.<\/p>\n

If you accidentally delete a meeting recording file, you can restore it from the OneDrive Recycle Bin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

To start a meeting recording, choose the Start recording<\/em> option from the More options (\u00b7\u00b7\u00b7<\/strong>) menu in the meeting. Choosing this option will automatically start the Live Transcription process as well.<\/p>\n

Transcripts in MS Stream can be generated automatically or uploaded from a local file.\u00a0 To do so:<\/p>\n

  1. Navigate to stream.office.com and open the video you want to caption.<\/li>\n
  2. Click Video settings<\/strong> <\/i><\/strong> in the upper-right corner.<\/li>\n
  3. Expand the Transcript and captions<\/strong> section.<\/li>\n
  4. If you already have a subtitle file, you can click Upload<\/strong> and Select file<\/strong>, then find and select your caption file from the window that appears, click Open<\/strong>, then Done<\/strong>.\u00a0 Otherwise, just click Generate <\/strong>to generate subtitles automatically.

    The best way to make a recording from MS Stream available on sites like Brightspace or your personal Silk page is to “Embed” the video using a special link:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Navigate to Microsoft Stream<\/a>\u00a0and open the video you want to embed.<\/li>\n
    2. Click Share<\/strong> in the upper-right corner.<\/li>\n
    3. Select Embed code<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    4. Adjust the settings or leave the defaults, and click Copy embed code<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    5. The embed code can then be pasted in to an HTML page.\u00a0 For Brightspace, navigate to a module, click the Source Code <\/i> <\/strong>icon, paste in the embed code, click Save<\/strong> and then Update<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      \n \t\t\tPrerequisite for embedded recordings<\/span> \t\t\t \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

      For embedded recordings to play properly, “Anyone<\/strong>” must be selected from the Sharing settings<\/strong> window as shown below in the Share recordings with others<\/strong> section of this guide.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

      1. Navigate to stream.office.com<\/a> and open the video you want to share.<\/li>\n
      2. Click Share<\/strong> in the upper-right corner and then select Share<\/strong> from the menu.

      3. Enter all or part of the recipient’s name in the box provided, and then select their account from the drop-down that appears.\u00a0 Repeat this for as many recipients as you like.

      4. Enter an optional message<\/strong> to the recipient(s) in the text box provided.<\/li>\n
      5. Note the two items in green<\/span><\/strong> above.\n
          \n
        1. The eyeball indicates that the recipients will be able to view<\/em> the stream only.\u00a0 If you’d like them to be able to edit<\/em> the video settings, click the eyeball and select Can edit<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
        2. The “People in your organization with the link can view” text indicates that only UVM accounts will be able to access your recording. To share outside<\/em> the organization, click the Gear icon (<\/i><\/strong>) and select Anyone<\/strong> from the window that appears.\u00a0 From that same window, you can optionally set an expiration date<\/strong> and an access password<\/strong> for the share link: Open the access level drop-down (<\/i><\/strong>) and adjust as necessary. Click Apply<\/strong>.

        3. Click <\/i>Send<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          1. Navigate to Microsoft Stream<\/a> and open the video you no longer want to share.<\/li>\n
          2. Click\u00a0Share<\/strong>\u00a0in the upper-right corner and then select\u00a0Manage access<\/strong>\u00a0from the menu.
            \n            \"\"<\/a><\/li>\n
          3. From here, there are several ways to revoke access:\n
              \n
            1. To revoke all non-owner access, click Stop sharing<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
            2. To revoke access from individual users, select their name from the People<\/strong> tab, expand the drop-down menu that shows their current access level, click Remove direct access<\/strong>,\u00a0and then Apply<\/strong>.
              \n              \"Remove<\/a><\/li>\n
            3. To revoke access from a whole Teams channel, click Groups<\/strong>, and then the Trash can icon (<\/i><\/strong>) to the right of the group you’d like to remove. Click Remove<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
            4. To revoke access from previously shared links, click Links<\/strong>, and then the trash can icon (<\/i><\/strong>) to the right of the link you’d like to remove. Click Remove<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              \n \t\t\tOwner access<\/span> \t\t\t \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

              \n \t\t\t\t\t“Owner<\/strong>” access cannot be revoked. The list of Owners will include yourself but will also likely include a UVM Administrator account. This type of admin access is required to run reports and revoke permissions when people leave UVM. You can safely ignore these. \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

              Troubleshooting<\/h2>\n \t\t

              Error: The video you are trying to transcribe does not have audio, try transcribing a video with audio.<\/h3><\/div>\r\n \t\t\t
              \r\n \t\t\t\t
              \r\n \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

              If you receive this message, you can try uploading an existing subtitle file by clicking Upload<\/strong>.
              \n\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

              However, if you do not already have a subtitle file, you can try to Generate<\/strong> a transcript again after first downloading, converting, and re-uploading the recording:<\/p>\n

                \n
              1. Click the three dots <\/i><\/strong> above the video and then click Download<\/strong>.
                \n                \"\"<\/a><\/li>\n
              2. Click Download<\/strong> again and choose a location to Save <\/strong>the file if prompted.\u00a0 Note the save location you chose.<\/li>\n
              3. Navigate to the location you chose above, right-click on the recording, hover over Open with<\/strong> and select Microsoft Clipchamp<\/strong>.\n
                \n \t\t\tAlternate apps for Macs and older computers<\/span> \t\t\t \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

                \n \t\t\t\t\tWhile Microsoft Clipchamp is free software available from the Microsoft Store, and is likely installed already if you are on a Windows 11 computer, it’s possible you don’t have it, especially if you’re on a Mac.\u00a0 Other free applications to convert video files include VLC Media Player<\/a>, ScreenPal<\/a>, and HandBrake<\/a>. \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

                \n \t\t<\/li>\n

              4. Click Export<\/strong> and chose your Video quality.\u00a0 I would recommend 1080p<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
              5. Note the save location again and click Save.<\/strong><\/li>\n
              6. Navigate back to MS Stream and click Upload<\/strong>.

              7. Find and select the new Mp4 file that you saved above, click Open<\/strong>, then Upload<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
              8. Now, select the newly uploaded recording from the Stream homepage, click Video settings<\/strong>, Transcript and captions<\/strong>, then Generate<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
