Microsoft Stream Classic – Make a Channel to collate videos for a limited audience

These instructions explain how to organize your videos into Stream Channels and share with a particular Team.

This article is for the Classic Version of Microsoft Stream

Only recordings made prior to Fall 2021 semester will appear on Stream Classic. UVM has moved to Microsoft’s new meeting recording service, built on Microsoft OneDrive and Sharepoint.

Click here to read more about Stream (on SharePoint).

Meeting recordings are automatically placed into Teams Channel Posts (when meetings are scheduled in a Team Channel) or Chat (when meetings are scheduled via the Teams Calendar). But it can be difficult to find old videos (and requires a lot of scrolling). Following these steps, you’ll organize a set of your recordings under one Tab in one of your MS Teams, allowing your audience to easily find all videos. This works particularly well for class recordings.

Create a Channel in MS Stream

Information

NOTES:

An MS Stream Channel is different from a Channel in MS Teams, despite having the same nomenclature.

An MS Team is represented as a “Group” in MS Stream.

  1. Navigate to MS Stream by going to https://stream.microsoft.com and Sign In using your UVM email address in the form of NetID@uvm.edu. This will take you to the UVM authentication page to login with your NetID and password.
  2. Once signed in, go to My Content > Channels.
  3. Click the icon to “Create a New Channel.”
  4. Name the Channel (for a class, you might want to choose Course & Semester).
  5. Give a more detailed description of the Channel.
  6. Leave the Channel access as a Group Channel.
  7. Under “select group,” start typing the name of your Team (exactly as it appears in MS Teams) that you want to have access to the videos.
  8. Choose the correct Team from the search results.
  9. Add an image if desired.
  10. Click Create.

Add an MS Stream Channel to MS Teams

  1. Add a tab to the General (or other chosen) Channel of your Team in MS Teams by clicking the + at the top of the page.
  2. Click on or search for Stream.
  3. Search for the MS Stream Channel name and hit enter.
  4. Select the desired MS Stream Channel from the search results.
  5. Give the tab a short name (such as “Class Videos”).
  6. Choose whether or not to post about the tab.
  7. Click save.

Add a Recording to your MS Stream Channel

  1. Navigate to MS Stream by going to https://stream.microsoft.com and Sign In using your UVM email address in the form of NetID@uvm.edu. This will take you to the UVM authentication page to login with your NetID and password.
  2. Once signed in, go to My Content > Videos.
  3. To the right of any video, click the icon for “Add to group/channel.”
  4. Choose “Channel” from the Share With drop-down menu.
  5. Search for the Channel you created in Step 1 (using the exact same name) and hit enter.
  6. Select the correct Channel from the search results.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Repeat these “Add a Recording to your MS Stream Channel” steps to add additional desired videos to your MS Stream Channel, which will now automatically show up in MS Teams.
