Blackboard – Importing Courses

Previously archived courses can be restored by importing them into another course. This process can be used to move content from one course to another, or to recover content from a course that is no longer accessible.  If you are moving content between two existing course spaces, consider using the Course Copy method.

Use the right browser!

Firefox or Chrome work best when importing archives.

  1. Locate or create (and download) an archive file for the course you are importing from. See instructions for archiving.
  2. Proceed to the the course you are importing the content into.
  3. Go to Control Panel > Packages and Utilities > Import Package / View Logs.
  4. Click the Import Package button
  5. Click Browse My Computer, select the archive file and then click Open.
  6. Check the boxes next to the content you wish to import, then click Submit.
  7. Wait for the confirmation email indicating the import process has completed.
  8. To view the imported content, you may need to clear your browser’s cache, or click the Refresh button at the top of the course menu.
Imported menu items are appended to the existing menu.

Therefore, you may need to remove duplicate menu items.

Dates can be adjusted in bulk.

Due dates are copied over from the previous course, so if you have a lot of items with old dates attached to them, you can adjust them using the Date Management tool.
