Such devices may not be able to connect to the UVM wireless network. Fortunately, many game and media devices are able to connect to the <strong>wired network using an Ethernet cable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Devices that won&#8217;t work on UVM WiFi<\/h2>\n<p>Please look for your device below to see if a wired network connection is possible. Password protection is recommended as anyone in the same area of the wired network will be able to see the device.<\/em><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th colspan=\"2\">Key<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><i class=\"fa fa-check-circle \" ><\/i><\/span><\/td>\n<td>These devices <strong>DO<\/strong> have Ethernet ports, so they can be registered at <a href=\"http:\/\/go.uvm.edu\/playonline\">go.uvm.edu\/playonline<\/a> and connected to UVM&#8217;s wired network using an Ethernet cable. For instructions and more info, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/kb\/article\/getting-connected-at-uvm\">Getting Connected at UVM.<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><i class=\"fa fa-compress \" ><\/i><\/span><\/td>\n<td>These devices do not have Ethernet ports but can be used with compatible Ethernet adapters, so they can be connected to UVM&#8217;s wired network using an Ethernet cable and a compatible adapter registered on our network.\u00a0For instructions and more info, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/kb\/article\/getting-connected-at-uvm\">Getting Connected at UVM.<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><i class=\"fa fa-times \" ><\/i><\/span><\/td>\n<td>These devices do not have an Ethernet port and\/or are used in a way that would not work correctly on a network shared by large numbers of other users.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2><strong>Not allowed on campus<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The following devices are prohibited from use on campus according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/policies\/cit\/compuse.pdf\">UVM&#8217;s Computer, Communication, and Network Technology Acceptable Use Policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Routers<\/li>\n<li>Network Switches<\/li>\n<li>Any Surveillance devices<\/li>\n<li>Apple Time Capsule<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What if my device isn&#8217;t listed?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If your device is not listed above and you&#8217;re not sure it&#8217;ll work on the UVM wireless network, there are a couple things to look for:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Check the manufacturer&#8217;s documentation to see if the device supports 802.1x authentication (WPA2-Enterprise), if it does it should be able to connect to UVM WiFi.<\/li>\n<li>If it supports WPA2-Enterprise but gives you a list of settings to fill out when trying to connect, check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/kb\/article\/manual-profile-creation-win10\/\">this article<\/a> for the correct settings.<\/li>\n<li>If it doesn&#8217;t support WPA2-Enterprise networks, look for an Ethernet port.
