Unfortunately, game consoles and media streaming devices are not designed to be compatible with WiFi using WPA2 Enterprise network security, as these type of devices are made for common consumer network configurations like those on your standard home wireless router.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As an alternative, Ethernet equipped devices can connect to the internet using the data port located in your residential hall.\u00a0All you need to do is complete the Network Registration Form at <a href=\"https:\/\/go.uvm.edu\/playonline\">go.uvm.edu\/playonline<\/a>. To complete the form, you will need the Wired MAC address of the your device. It&#8217;s also known as a physical or hardware address. Unlike an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/kb\/article\/finding-your-ip-address\/\">IP address<\/a>, the MAC address doesn&#8217;t generally change when traveling to a new location (although there are <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/guide\/security\/wi-fi-privacy-secb9cb3140c\/web\">exceptions<\/a>). Computers with multiple connections have a unique MAC address for each of their Ethernet as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapters.<\/p>\n<p>MAC addresses are 12-character alphanumeric values broken into six groups of two\u00a0<a title=\"Hexadecimal\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hexadecimal\">hexadecimal<\/a> digits. Those groups can be stylistically separated by hyphens, colons, or spaces, or not separated at all. The first three groups together make up the device&#8217;s <a title=\"Organizationally unique identifier\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Organizationally_unique_identifier\">organizationally unique identifier<\/a> (OUI) which can be used to identify the manufacturer.<\/p>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\"><h3>Registering an Ethernet Adapter<\/h3><\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Some devices that do not have an ethernet port can still be connected to the wired network via an ethernet adapter.\u00a0 When doing this, you&#8217;ll need to register the adapter&#8217;s MAC address, rather than that of the device that is connecting through it.<\/p>\n<p>Some ethernet adapters will have the MAC address printed on the side of the item itself.\u00a0 If this is not the case, you can register the adapter manually like this:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Using a laptop or desktop computer, connect the computer to the wired network using an ethernet cable and the adapter.<\/li>\n<li>On the computer, visit https:\/\/netreg.uvm.edu and register the device.<\/li>\n<li>Your adapter will now be registered, and should be usable with your media device.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t have a computer that you can do this with, you can also bring the adapter to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/kb\/contact\/\">Computer Clinic<\/a> so we can help register it.<\/p>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\"><h3>Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S<\/h3><\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Navigate to the\u00a0<strong>Settings\u00a0<\/strong>page<\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<strong>Network<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<strong>Advanced Settings<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Under\u00a0<strong>IP Settings,\u00a0<\/strong>the MAC address will be listed next to\u00a0<strong>Wired MAC<\/strong> on the right-hand side of the screen<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\"><h3>Xbox One<\/h3><\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">    \t\t<\/p>\n<div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--alert    \"   >\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t\t New, freshly opened Xbox Ones require a different process to get your MAC address.\u00a0<a href=\"#newXbox\">Skip to the next section<\/a>.    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \/.ht-shortcodes-messages --><br \/>\n    \t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Finding your MAC Address in Network Settings<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The\u00a0<b>Network\u00a0<\/b>screen is the place you come to for everything that involves your console\u2019s ability to connect to Xbox Live, play multiplayer games, and troubleshoot general network performance issues. To get to the\u00a0<b>Network\u00a0<\/b>screen:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Press the\u00a0<b>Xbox<\/b>\u00a0button\u00a0on your gamepad to open the guide.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Select\u00a0<b>Settings<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Select\u00a0<b>All Settings<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Select\u00a0<b>Network<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Select\u00a0<strong>Network settings<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The\u00a0<b>Network\u00a0<\/b>screen is divided into three columns. This page describes network settings options that are available from each of these columns.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Now that you&#8217;ve located your Wired MAC address, please include it in your Network Registration Form at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/go.uvm.edu\/playonline\">go.uvm.edu\/playonline<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong id=\"newXbox\">New Xbox One &#8211; Finding your MAC Address<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If your Xbox One is fresh out of the box and has never connected to the internet before, it will try to run a system update as soon as it is turned on. This process requires an internet connection and cannot be skipped. You are unable to view your MAC address during this process, so cannot register your Xbox One for an internet connection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Heres the workaround:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Proceed through System Startup. It will fail because you do not have an internet connection.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Select the &#8220;Fix It&#8221; option to attempt to diagnose the connection issue.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">You will be brought to a screen prompting you to manually set up the connection. or &#8220;<strong>Hardware Address<\/strong>.&#8221; A MAC address may have letters and\/or numbers and will be in the format\u00a000:00:00:00:00:00. The Roku 3 is the most recent Roku that offers this feature.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Locate your Roku&#8217;s wired MAC address. This can be found on either the side or bottom of your player, or on the box you received it in. If you are unable to locate the MAC address that way, open the home screen on your Roku from your TV and then go to\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">Settings<\/strong>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">Network<\/strong>.
