All images in this tutorial are screenshots.<\/p>\n<h2>Creating a Turnitin Similarity Assignment<\/h2>\n<h3>Step 1: Create an Assignment as You Normally Would<\/h3>\n<p>Here are directions to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/kb\/article\/brightspace-how-to-create-an-assignment\/\">create an assignment<\/a> in Brightspace<\/p>\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--success  hts-messages--withtitle hts-messages--withicon \"   >\r\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">Best Practice<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<p>\r\n    \t\t\t\t\tAdd a note to students&#8217; Completion, select &#8220;Compatible with Turnitin&#8221; under Allowable File Extensions<\/h3>\n<p>When you select Compatible with Turnitin, these are the Allowed File Extensions: doc, docx, html, hwp, odt, pdf, pps, ppsx, ppt, pptx, ps, rtf, txt, wpd, xls, and xlsx.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 3: Under Evaluation &amp; This can be an attempt to artificially inflate the word count of a document or to throw off similarity detection.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Replaced Characters<\/strong>: The author of the paper has swapped out easily mistakable letters from different alphabets to try to elude similarity detection. We automatically swap the replaced characters for the correct one when generating the Similarity Report, but the intention of academic misconduct is there.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Score<\/h4>\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--alert  hts-messages--withtitle  \"   >\r\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">Note<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<p>\r\n    \t\t\t\t\tHigh similarity scores are not good or bad.
