When first set up, the app directly links your specific device to UVM&#8217;s Duo system.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This means that if you get a new phone, you will lose the ability to receive push notifications, even if you still have the same phone number as before and even if you transferred the app&#8217;s data over to the new phone through something like Apple&#8217;s migration assistant.<\/p>\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--info  hts-messages--withtitle  \"   >\r\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">Already have a phone number added for Duo telephony verification?<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<p>\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"ui-provider cdp cdq bbi cdr cds cdt cdu cdv cdw cdx cdy cdz cea ceb cec ced cee cef ceg ceh cei cej cek cel cem cen ceo cep ceq cer ces cet ceu cev cew\" dir=\"ltr\">The reactivation process outlined here can also be used for first-time activation of the Duo Mobile app on your mobile device if the device has previously been set up for Duo telephony authentication only (i.e. set to receive authentication requests via text or call).<\/span>    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\r\n    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\r\n    \t\t<\/div><!-- \/.ht-shortcodes-messages -->\r\n    \t\t\n<h2>Duo Instant Restore<\/h2>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve enabled the Duo Restore feature on your phone, you can migrate your Duo accounts to a new device using Instant Restore.<\/p>\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--info  hts-messages--withtitle hts-messages--withicon \"   >\r\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">Does not work cross-platform<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<p>\r\n    \t\t\t\t\tDuo Instant Restore only works when migrating accounts between two devices of the same operating system type. If you need to move your account from an Android to an iPhone or vice-versa, please see <strong>Manually Reactivate your Duo Device<\/strong> below.    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\r\n    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\r\n    \t\t<\/div><!-- \/.ht-shortcodes-messages -->\r\n    \t\t\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\"><h3>iOS - Enabling Duo Restore<\/h3><\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>On an iOS device, there are only two things you need to do to enable Duo Restore:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure that you&#8217;re running an updated version of the Duo Mobile app<\/li>\n<li>Back up your device to iCloud with iCloud Keychain enabled<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As long as these conditions are met, iCloud will automatically back up your UVM Duo account nightly.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--alert  hts-messages--withtitle hts-messages--withicon \"   >\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">Does not apply to third-party accounts<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t\tThese automatic backups only include fully Duo-protected accounts, including your UVM account. If you also use the Duo app to generate passcodes for other web services like Facebook or Snapchat, see <strong>Enable Duo Restore for Third-Party Accounts<\/strong> in <a href=\"https:\/\/guide.duo.com\/duo-restore\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Duo&#8217;s detailed guide.<\/a>    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \/.ht-shortcodes-messages -->\n    \t\t<\/p>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\"><h3>iOS - Using Instant Restore<\/h3><\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The Instant Restore feature will only work if Duo Restore is enabled on the old device (see <strong>iOS &#8211; Enabling Duo Restore<\/strong> above).<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>On your new device, sign in to iCloud and <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/118105\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Restore your device from an iCloud backup<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/109016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">iCloud Keychain is enabled<\/a> on the new device.<\/li>\n<li>Install the Duo Mobile app (published by Duo Security LLC) from the App Store.<\/li>\n<li>Open the Duo Mobile app and tap <strong>Continue<\/strong>. Duo Mobile should automatically locate your iCloud backup and migrate your Duo accounts to the new device.<\/li>\n<li>Duo will send a push notification to your old device stating that your account was migrated to a new device. Tap\u00a0<strong>Yes<\/strong> to confirm this and to deactivate the account on the old device.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\"><h3>Android - Enabling Duo Restore<\/h3><\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Automatic backups require that your device has a PIN, password, or pattern unlock. If you can&#8217;t use these unlock options on your device, please see <strong>Android (Legacy) &#8211; Enabling Duo Restore<\/strong> below.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--info  hts-messages--withtitle hts-messages--withicon \"   >\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">Android Settings interfaces may vary<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t\tDifferent phone manufacturers use different interfaces. The first three steps may look very different on your phone.    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \/.ht-shortcodes-messages -->\n    \t\t<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Locate the <strong>Backup<\/strong> page in your Settings app.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/AndroidSettingsBackup.png\" rel=\"lightbox-1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re already using Google backups, ensure that App Data or Other Device Data is backed up.<a The app should automatically restore your accounts.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\"><h3>Android (Legacy) - Enabling Duo Restore<\/h3><\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>This Legacy Android option does not work as well or as easily as the standard option, but has fewer requirements. If you use a PIN, password, or Pattern Unlock on your phone, you&#8217;ll have a better experience with <strong>Android &#8211; Enabling Duo Restore<\/strong> above.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--alert  hts-messages--withtitle hts-messages--withicon \"   >\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">Restoring will require access to the old phone<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t\tWhen backing up using this method, restoring your Duo accounts to the new phone will require scanning a QR code generated from your old phone&#8217;s Duo app. If this will not be an option for you, we recommend generating a set of offline codes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/kb\/article\/duo-multi-factor-authentication\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">using the directions in this guide<\/a>. This will make manually reactivating the app on your new phone much easier.    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \/.ht-shortcodes-messages -->\n    \t\t<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the Duo Mobile app and tap the three lines in the top-left to open the menu.<\/li>\n<li>Tap <strong>Settings<\/strong>, and then tap <strong>Duo Restore<\/strong>.\n<div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--info  hts-messages--withtitle hts-messages--withicon \"   >\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">Don't see Duo Restore?<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t\tDepending on how updated your phone and Duo app are, you may have to instead tap <strong>Duo Instant Restore<\/strong> and then <strong>Looking for Google Drive restore settings?<\/strong>    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \/.ht-shortcodes-messages -->\n    \t\t<\/li>\n<li>Tap <strong>Backup accounts with Google Drive<\/strong>, and then select or add the Google account you&#8217;d like to use.<\/li>\n<li>When prompted, grant Duo Mobile permission to use Google Drive. If you don&#8217;t use any third-party accounts like Facebook or Snapchat, you should be all set.<\/li>\n<li>If you would like to back up any third-party accounts, tap <strong>Automatically reconnect third-party accounts.<\/strong> This will prompt you to create a recovery password.\n<div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--danger  hts-messages--withtitle hts-messages--withicon \"   >\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">Do not lose this password!<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t\tWhen migrating your accounts to a new device, you will need to enter this password to recover your third-party accounts.
