\r\n \t\t\t\t\tVMWare has been acquired by a parent company, and as such, the names of their applications have changed. To open or install the VDI client application, look for “Omnissa Horizon Client” from now on (instead of “VMWare”). \t\t\t\t<\/p>\r\n \t\t\t \t\t\t\r\n \t\t<\/div>\r\n \t\t\n

Many classes or job duties require application virtualization using UVM’s Virtual Desktop Interface (VDI). All current UVM affiliates have access to some basic virtual machines, though several colleges and departments have more specialized desktop pools that require additional permissions to access (CEMS Virtual Votey, CEMS Simulations, ArcGIS VM , etc). \r\n \t\t\tSave to your Computer or OneDrive<\/span> \t\t\t \t\t\t\t

\r\n \t\t\t\t\tWhen working in a virtual machine, files saved to the VM’s Desktop, Documents folder, or any other folder on that VM are lost when you log out. Instead, save to your computer or your UVM OneDrive space using the instructions below. \t\t\t\t<\/p>\r\n \t\t\t \t\t\t\r\n \t\t<\/div>\r\n \t\t\n \t\t

  1. Open the Horizon Client Application<\/a>, and connect to the desktop.uvm.edu server.<\/li>\n
  2. Click Omnissa Horizon Client<\/strong> in the top-left menu, then click Settings…<\/strong>.

  3. Select the Drive Sharing<\/strong> tab and ensure\u00a0Allow access to removable storage<\/strong>\u00a0and Do not show dialog when connecting to a desktop or application<\/strong> are checked.

  4. Next, either click the plus (+<\/strong>) icon to find a specific local folder to access from the VDI, or <\/em>check the box next to Allow access to <\/i>\u00a0your_user<\/em><\/strong> to use just your entire home folder.\n
    \n \t\t\tRecommended: Create a dedicated local folder instead of using your Home folder<\/span> \t\t\t \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

    \n \t\t\t\t\tCreating a dedicated folder to store all of the files you’ll need access to from the VDI can help with organization. You might also consider using a OneDrive folder<\/a>. \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

  5. Close the Preferences window and launch the appropriate virtual desktop.<\/li>\n
  6. Verify your local folder is available by opening File Explorer<\/strong> and going to This PC<\/strong>. Your shared folder(s) will appear under Devices and drives<\/strong>.

      \n \t\t\t\t\tCreating and using a specific folder for all of your VMWare Horizon Client files can help with organization. You might also consider adding adding OneDrive folder<\/a>. \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

    5. Click the back arrow (<\/i><\/strong>) to leave the Settings screen, then launch the virtual desktop.<\/li>\n
