UVM has an unlimited site license, and UVM affiliates have access to a broad range of online training resources. As of August 2020, UVM affiliates can access an ArcGIS license by using single sign-on (SSO) to sign in to ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Pro.<\/p>\n<p>ArcGIS includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ArcGIS Pro &#8212; next generation desktop software application for Windows computers.<\/li>\n<li>ArcGIS Desktop &#8212; predecessor to ArcGIS Pro that also runs on Windows (includes ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcScene, and ArcGlobe). This is legacy software that is still supported for security updates but is no longer in feature development.<\/li>\n<li>ArcGIS Online &#8212; cloud-based GIS software that brings mapping, analysis, sharing, and data discovery capabilities to the web browser.<\/li>\n<li>Mobile GIS and other geo-enabled products for business analytics, imagery exploitation, urban planning, IoT, and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This guide includes instructions for signing into ArcGIS, accessing the current desktop software on a virtual machine, or installing it on a Windows computer.<\/p>\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\"><h3>Signing in to ArcGIS<\/h3><\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<p>Whether you are using ArcGIS Online or running desktop software such as ArcGIS Pro, an Esri account is required to sign in to ArcGIS. As of August 2020, an account is automatically created if you sign in with your NetID and password via UVM SSO. These instructions are for ArcGIS Online. Signing in works exactly the same way for ArcGIS Pro.<\/p>\n<div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--info   hts-messages--withicon \"   >\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t\tIt may not be necessary to sign in to ArcGIS Pro in computer labs that are configured for concurrent use licensing, which allows the software to run without the ability to access the Esri geospatial cloud. This is the <strong>default recommendation<\/strong> in many mapping and spatial analysis courses, though it&#8217;s also a great option in cases where a Windows machine capable of running ArcGIS is unavailable.<\/p>\n<div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--alert  hts-messages--withtitle hts-messages--withicon \"   >\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">MFA required<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t\tIf you have not previously set up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/kb\/article\/duo-multi-factor-authentication\/\"><strong>Duo multi-factor authentication (MFA)<\/strong><\/a>, you will need to do so before attempting to open a virtual desktop to run ArcGIS software.    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \/.ht-shortcodes-messages
