Why Proxy Access?<\/h3><\/div>\r\n \t\t\t\r\n \t\t\t\t\r\n \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\nIn compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA)<\/a>, student financial and academic records may not be shared with a third party without written consent.<\/p>\nThe Proxy access system allows a student to grant this written consent to access financial records to another person, such as a parent or spouse.<\/p>\n
FERPA<\/strong><\/p>\n\nWith several exceptions, schools must have a student’s consent prior to the disclosure of education records after that student is 18 years old or is enrolled in a higher education institution (UVM). The law applies only to educational agencies and institutions that receive funds under a program administered by the U.S. Department of Education.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\nUVM’s FERPA compliance policy is as follows:<\/p>\n
FERPA affords Eligible Students (“Students”) certain rights with respect to their Student Education Record, including:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n- The right to inspect and review one\u2019s own Student Education Record within 45 days of the day the University receives a request for access.<\/li>\n
- The right to request amendment to one\u2019s own Student Education Record if the student believes such record to be inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the Student\u2019s privacy rights under FERPA.<\/li>\n
- The right to provide written consent prior to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in one\u2019s own Student Education Record, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.<\/li>\n
- The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the University of Vermont to comply with the requirements of FERPA. The name and address of the office that administers FERPA is:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

A Proxy with Account and Billing (Accounts Receivable) access can:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- View account activity and balance information<\/li>\n
- View billing statements<\/li>\n
- Make online payments<\/li>\n
- Access Federal tax form 1098-T<\/li>\n
- Receive billing related email notifications, including notifications when bills are available to view online, and reminders on applicable due dates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
A Proxy with Financial Aid access can:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- View financial aid award<\/li>\n
- View financial aid requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
A Proxy does not have access to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Grades and Transcripts<\/li>\n
- Schedules and Course Enrollment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Setting Up a New Proxy<\/h2>\n
Proxy access is granted by a student, but once access is granted there will be some additional set-up steps required from the new Proxy.<\/p>\n \t\t

- Begin the process of adding a new Proxy by clicking on Add Proxy<\/strong>
