Both accounts have different accessible files, folders, channels, and chats, and <strong>cannot be merged<\/strong>. It&#8217;s important to understand how these accounts work to effectively use Microsoft Teams as a collaborative tool.<\/p>\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--info  hts-messages--withtitle hts-messages--withicon \"   >\r\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">Note - in this article:<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<p>\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>If you see <strong>LCOM Teams<\/strong>, we are referring to access of Microsoft Teams through the LCOM license agreement, accessed with your LCOM <strong>username@med.uvm.edu<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If you see <strong>UVM Teams<\/strong>, we are referring to the more widely-available Microsoft Teams through the UVM license agreement, accessed with your UVM <strong>NetID@uvm.edu<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\r\n    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\r\n    \t\t<\/div><!-- \/.ht-shortcodes-messages -->\r\n    \t\t\n<h2>Setup Styles<\/h2>\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--danger  hts-messages--withtitle hts-messages--withicon \"   >\r\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\"><em>UVM Teams<\/em> should NOT be used for HIPAA protected information<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<p>\r\n    \t\t\t\t\tIf you need to store HIPAA protected information, please contact <a href=\"http:\/\/med.uvm.edu\/techservices\/support\/support\">LCOM Technology Services<\/a> or the UVMMC IS department.    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\r\n    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\r\n    \t\t<\/div><!-- \/.ht-shortcodes-messages -->\r\n    \t\t\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\"><h3>Recommended Setup - Desktop Client + Browser<\/h3><\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p><em>More complicated for <strong>you<\/strong>, less complicated for <strong>others<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you work with people on both UVM and LCOM Teams, consider logging into one account through <a href=\"https:\/\/teams.microsoft.com\">teams.microsoft.com<\/a> in your browser, the other through the Teams Desktop client.<\/p>\n<p>This setup style requires that you watch and maintain both of your Teams accounts and be more aware of how your files and folders are stored. However, this benefits other users, as they can more effectively communicate with you.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s recommended to enable desktop notifications when prompted in your browser. <a href=\"https:\/\/kb.helpline.w3.uvm.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Teams_Browser_Notifications.png\" rel=\"lightbox-0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15605\" src=\"https:\/\/kb.helpline.w3.uvm.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Teams_Browser_Notifications.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/dev\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Teams_Browser_Notifications.png 299w, https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/dev\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Teams_Browser_Notifications-50x20.png 50w, https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/dev\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Teams_Browser_Notifications-60x23.png 60w, https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/dev\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Teams_Browser_Notifications-100x39.png 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 299px) 100vw, 299px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\"><h3>Single Account Setup with Guest Access<\/h3><\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p><em>More complicated for\u00a0<strong>others<\/strong>, less\u00a0<\/em><em>complicated<\/em><em> (and less\u00a0<\/em><em>functionality)<\/em><em>\u00a0for <strong>you<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you prefer to use only your LCOM account for both LCOM Teams and UVM Teams, then people on UVM Teams will need to invite you to a team or chat with your full LCOM <strong>username@med.uvm.edu<\/strong> account.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--info  hts-messages--withtitle hts-messages--withicon \"   >\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">Guests are Unable to Join a Team Using an Invite Link<\/span>\n    \t\t<\/div>\n<p><!-- \/.ht-shortcodes-messages -->\n    \t\t<\/p>\n<p>This setup will be more complicated for members of UVM Teams, as they may not be aware of how or why they should message your LCOM account. Instead, they may see your UVM NetID (which exactly resembles your LCOM username) and send messages there.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, it&#8217;s important to establish communications preferences with any people you expect to contact you in UVM Teams. Additionally, you should periodically log into <a href=\"https:\/\/teams.microsoft.com\">teams.microsoft.com<\/a> and check your UVM Teams account for missed messages.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside introducing these potential communications issues, you will have functional limitations as a guest of UVM Teams.
