Some classrooms have the IClicker systems already installed for use with the desktop computer. An extra cable has been attached so you can connect it to your own laptop if you prefer to use that in the classrooms. See the list of the rooms with IClicker bases below.
In each of the General Purpose (GP) Classrooms we maintain, you will find an Instructor's Station that is consistent from room to room to make presentations of your class materials a snap. To find out what equipment is in the rooms you have been assigned to, see the Classroom Schedules on the Event Management Systems (EMS) web page.

A User Files folder, with a shortcut on the desktop, is for semester-long storage of Instructor Materials/Files. Please create a subfolder within the User Files folder for class files, presentations, etc. The folder can have your name or the class name/number. Any files saved on the desktop or in any other folder will be deleted each time the computer is rebooted as we now use Deep Freeze for our desktop management software.
If you are using Waterman 113-Q or 113-T, please refer to the Computer Labs page for what's in there and how it works.
Classroom Computers & Software Policy
Special Requests
Any special request for software must be made a minimum of 2 weeks before the start of any semester. Any request received after the two-week cut off will be installed only if time permits in the room schedule during my normal business hours.
Any software requested must have a valid license held by the University of Vermont that I can have access to or retain in my office while the software is installed for the semester. Software without a valid UVM license or a privately owned copy will not be installed. If you are going to use any software for demonstration purposes only, we suggest you bring in a laptop with the software already pre-installed on it. We will be happy to instruct you on how to connect that laptop to the presentation system in your assigned classroom.
Most General Purpose (GP) classrooms supported by us will have a Dell PC installed in the Instructor's Station with a common software package.
To see the Specs for the Current System(s) Used in General Purpose (GP) Classrooms above.
Please note, GP Classroom computers were imaged during the summer of 2015 and now include Deep Freeze and the Deep Freeze Cloud. We hope this will cut down if not eliminate malware and viruses not caught by our anti-virus software. With Deep Freeze and the Deep Freeze Cloud, routine updates for the operating system as well as some software and browser plugins and add-ons are automatically checked and updated each night. This will also ensure the desktop remains the same in each classroom and can easily be restored by a simple restart of the computer. This also means any files saved on the desktop or in locations other than the "User Files Folders" will be deleted at the restart. To have access to your files for future classes in a room for the semester, you will have to save them in the User Files Folder. There is a shortcut on the desktop to help you easily access your files.
For a list of the software installed, see Classroom Software package - PC's above.
When you turn the instructor's computers on in the GP classrooms, they will automatically log into the account for the instructor on the computer. If someone has logged out, please choose "owstation" for the user. There is no password for this account. The computers are set up on a "workgroup" and do not log in to any domain. They have access to the internet and all programs installed. This makes it secure, you don't have to remember to log out of your personal UVM account. This also makes it easy for Guest Speakers and Instructors that are non-affiliates so they can use the computers without having to worry about a guest account.
To view the room layouts as well as a list of the equipment in the room, see the Classroom Schedules (EMS). The exceptions to this are the computers in Kalkin and Votey. Room layouts and equipment lists are also in EMS; however, installed software and logging into the computer are unique in each building. For assistance with the computers in Votey and Perkins, please email CEMS Help or call (802) 656-3392. For assistance with the computers in Kalkin, please email GSB IT Support or call (802) 656-0800.
If the room assigned to you for your class doesn't have the equipment you requested or if you have problems with the size or location, please see the Registrar's Office's Contact-Us page for room scheduling.

Rooms that are equipped with a laser projector.
These projectors are instant on and off, generate zero heat, and are extremely energy efficient as there is no fan running (quiet) and no bulb to replace. Another cost savings is the extended hours between maintenance.

Air Media Classrooms
Right now Air Media is installed and ready to use in 3 GP Classrooms. They are all in Lafayette: rooms 108, 207, and 403. Air Media is also installed in the Media Classroom located on the lower level of the Bailey-Howe Library. Below is a portion taken from the Crestron website about Air Media and how easy it is to use. You can see the full How-To Guide by clicking on this link: Air Media Users Guide (PDF)
The Air Media TM Presentation Gateway allows users to present their content via projectors and displays using the existing IT infrastructure without connecting wires. It is a small network device with a single 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port. Windows and macOS users can share their desktop by running a small application (no installation required); iOS and Android™ users can share Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PDF files, photos, and other content by using the free application available from the App Store or in Google Play, respectively. Because it relies on Ethernet, Air Media has been designed with the IT professional in mind and includes many features to ease deployment.
Guest Application
The guest application is a small downloadable application that runs with standard user permissions. The IP address of the Air Media device is encoded in the filename of the application. The user may save the application locally, which allows for a direct connection to the device the next time the application is accessed.
Accessing the Guest Application
To access the guest application from the Air Media Welcome window, perform the following steps:
- Open a web browser and enter the user's IP address or hostname into the browser. The Air Media Guest Download window is displayed.
- Click Download for Client for Windows or Client for Mac.
- A small application is downloaded; the user runs the application.
- If required, the user is prompted for the login code.
- The session begins.
- The user's desktop is shown on the on-screen display.
