Counseling Staff

Stefan Nickum (he/him) is a full-time clinician at CAPS, and his office is located on the Redstone Campus. Stefan received his MSW from Smith College School for Social Work in 2019. Stefan's clinical experience is rooted in wilderness therapy, community mental health, and residential treatment where he worked primarily with adolescents and young adults in immersive, dynamic contexts. These experiences have shaped Stefan’s clinical practice to be relational, developmental trauma focused, and self-aware. Stefan holds particular clinical and intellectual interest in narrative therapy, intersectional feminism, racial trauma, and psychodynamic theory. Outside of his clinical practice Stefan is an artist, DJ and writer. He also enjoys backpacking, woodworking, growing food, and splitting firewood.

Stefan's areas of special interest include developmental trauma, racial healing for white and POC students, healing related oppression for LGBTQ+ folk, and healing oppression related to patriarchy and masculinity.
