Welcome to Health and Wellbeing at UVM

The UVM Center for Health and Wellbeing, housed in seven sites around campus, is committed to providing you with the highest quality care available in the areas of medicine, nutrition, counseling, psychiatry and athletic medicine. In addition, we offer a large variety of educational and outreach programming designed to provide you with the information you need to make smart decisions about taking care of yourself.

We are uniformly committed to providing you with respectful and confidential health care and counseling in a safe, supportive environment that values the identities, beliefs and abilities of each person. We continually hold ourselves accountable to our goal of being responsive to the needs and concerns of everyone who seeks care—to be sensitive to the diverse identities of our patients and knowledgeable about the concerns specific to these identities.

Our Philosophy of Care

The keywords for care at the Center for Health & Wellbeing are respect, dignity, and collaboration.

We believe in non-judgmental, collaborative, student-centered care, based on respect for the dignity of the individual. Our focus on individualized care means that we take your economic, cultural, ethnic and spiritual background into account, as well as your values, developmental level, and interpersonal support systems.

We think that people have the right to accessible, cost-effective, high-quality health care—including diagnosis, treatment, education, counseling, advocacy, and coordination of services.

We take seriously our responsibility to respond to important public health issues that may affect the campus community.

We demonstrate a high level of professional commitment by supporting staff education, collegial relationships, peer review, and acceptance of accountability in our practices.

Accreditations

The Center for Health & Wellbeing is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS). We are among only 5% of college health facilities accredited in this way.

Both of these organizations define high national standards for patient and client care, facilities, methodology and value. The accreditation process includes rigorous peer reviews and site visits. Accreditation is a honor for us, and tells you that the care you receive from the Center for Health & Wellbeing is of the highest order.
