Gund Affiliate, Associate Professor of Operations Management, UVM Grossman School of Business

Marilyn T. Lucas is an Associate Professor of Operations Management in the Grossman School of Business at UVM. After completing her undergraduate degree from the Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs des Techniques Agricoles (E.N.I.T.A) in France and her M.S. in Operations Management from Michigan Technological University, she earned a Ph.D. in Operations Management from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Her research interests include a wide range of strategic issues in operations and supply chain management. For instance, she relies on empirically-based techniques to investigate the impact of environmental management initiatives on firm financial performance. As societal awareness intensifies, tighter governmental regulations and mounting consumer pressures are forcing firms to reassess their positions toward the natural environment and take appropriate steps. It has therefore become imperative for both researchers and managers to understand environmental management practices (EMPs), and how these practices work–whether separately or in combination–to help the firm achieve a competitive advantage. Dr. Lucas’ work focuses on understanding the nature of these EMPs, their role in the firm’s operations and supply chain, and their impact on the firm’s financial performance (FP) in both manufacturing and service organizations.
