Gund Graduate Fellow, Rubenstein School of Science and Natural Resources

Lucy Drummond (she/her) is an interdisciplinary environmental scholar. For her Ph.D. dissertation, she is researching how the plastics industry furthers fossil fuel use and environmental injustice. Her final chapter will focus on activism and solutions, so that her readers remember that hope and joy abound in the environmental field. At UVM, she has served as President of the Rubenstein Graduate Student Association and on the Traditional Ecological Knowledge Faculty Search Committee. Lucy is an ally of the Abenaki of Odanak First Nation

Lucy’s Master’s thesis at NYU examined the environmental, humanitarian, and philosophical stakes embedded in the global journey of the making of a smartphone, for which she was awarded both departmental and school-wide awards. She has also worked in New York City for five years in professional media and communications for companies including Coca-Cola and NASCAR. Lucy played Varsity Volleyball in college, and in 2021 won an outdoor grass tournament while 5 months pregnant.
