Communications Director

Basil is an award-winning communicator with more than 15 years of experience in public and media relations at the University of Vermont and the University of British Columbia.

He has extensive experience helping scholars and university leaders to get media coverage for their research, expert commentary and institutional efforts in global news outlets such as The New York Times, The Guardian, CNN and The Associated Press.

As head of communications and marketing at UVM's Gund Institute for Environment, Basil provides strategic communications leadership and training, translates and promotes discoveries, produces multimedia stories, and advances our reputation and brand across traditional and digital spaces.

For Gund scholars, Basil has one golden rule. "Let me know when a journal accepts your paper. That allows us to collaborate on the right communications strategy before your findings are published."
