The NE FIN group is working to create a network of people, data and information related to forest inventory programs across the Northeast. Through this project, we will aggregate data from a diverse and disconnected network of sources that can be used for novel synthesis and analysis of factors influencing forest structure, productivity and health. The research conducted with these data will provide new insights on how forests are growing and changing across the region, improve our understanding of forest demography and biometry, and inform forest management.

NE FIN Goals

  • Develop a novel online data infrastructure to automate data ingest and give the research and monitoring community sophisticated search, discovery, visualization, and download capabilities.
  • Document inventory methodologies across programs and work with stakeholders to propose standard approaches and facilitate data linkages.
  • Formalize and expand a network of collaborators to engage in data synthesis and explore new avenues of inquiry in historical and ongoing forest inventory efforts.
  • Conduct scientific investigations based on the resulting data aggregation to highlight the utility and potential applications for this data infrastructure.
