Methods

  • Current Methods
    • Precipitation and volume
      • Started: 1980-01-01
      • Method Description: Precipitation volume and pH are recorded on an event basis.

    • Rain and snow collection
      • Method Description: Rainfall is intercepted by a funnel and passes through a length of tygon tubing until it reaches and is collected in a one gallon jug. Snow is collected and melted indoors to completely melt before pH is measured.

Sampling Equipment

  • Current Equipment
    • Bucket
      • Started: 1980-01-01
      • Sampling Description: Snow is collected in a five gallon polyethylene bucket.

    • Digital pH meter, combination electrode
      • Started: 1980-01-01
      • Sampling Description: Cole Parmer digital pH meter model 5987, and a Cole Parmer combination electrode with a calomel reference

    • Rainfall collector
      • Started: 1980-01-01
      • Sampling Description: Rainfall collector is a screened funnel with a one gallon polyetheylene collection jug.

Site Characteristics

  • Site Description: Field stations at Proctor Maple Research Center (400 m) and Mt. Mansfield summit at the WCAX transmitter station (1204 m).

  • Site Description: Mount Mansfield Summit site is located at 44.5250087 N, 72.8148911 W (NAD83 format) at an elevation of 3938 ft.
