Methods

  • Past Methods (no longer in use)
    • Selecting sample trees
      • Started: 1996-10-01
        Ended: 1996-12-01
      • Method Description: Belt transects 3 meters wide and 150 meters long were used to select sample trees. All white birch trees along the transects established at 4 elevations were sampled. The compass bearing used at each elevation was: 730 m=N80E, 820 m=N80E, 910 m=N72E, and 1000 m=N74E. A random number generator was used to select two trees per DBH class to be cored at each elevation. DBH classes used were: <10.16 cm; 10.16-15.23 cm; 15.24-20.31 cm; 20.32-25.39 cm; and >25.4 cm. DBH was measured to the nearest ten
