4-H Tech Wizards is a skill-building and mentoring program for underserved youth ages 8 to 18. Efforts focus on teaching STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) curriculum, as well as the important life skills of goal setting, critical thinking and communication. The combination of curriculum activities and effective mentoring strategies improves family relationships, increases social competencies and school attendance, and reduces juvenile delinquency, youth unemployment and school failure. Youth engage with their community, sharing new technology skills to address a community need through a service learning project. STEM topic areas are aerospace, digital photography, GPS, robotics, videography, bridges, forestry and solar energy.Learn more >>

In partnership with the Vermont National Guard and Operation: Military Kids, UVM Extension 4-H offered a Tech Wizards GPS and Digital Photography summer camp to youth with parents in the military. Throughout the week, mentors worked with participants to learn the basics of both GPS mapping and digital photography. The camp's culminating project – to plot and photograph invasive plant species and areas of hazard along the National Guard's trail networks – allowed youth to apply their new skills in support of others.
Learn more about the campers and their efforts by watching WCAX's video "Military kids on a mission to help Vt Guard and environment". Stay tuned to our website for more exciting Tech Wizards camps coming up this spring and summer!
