Building Capacity

What it's all about

The Building Capacity project provides an integrated program of education and technical assistance to build leadership in Vermont’s nonprofits, community boards and committees, and local commissions.  All of these entities do so much of the work that sustains the quality of life for Vermonters.  Our efforts focus on an innovative virtual toolbox of leadership and capacity skills organized around learning modules delivered online.  We provide entry-level skills that can be completed alone or combined into larger, more in-depth programs.

Vermont is a great place to be a nonprofit!  Our communities are vibrant and engaging because we value, among other things the arts, green space, healthy lakes and streams and compassionate human services.  The Vermont nonprofit sector has embraced the responsibility of maintaining community vibrancy and does this with State and local funding support and the countless volunteer hours and financial donations from Vermonters.  Find out more about the Vermont nonprofit sector in the Vermont Community Foundation’s report (PDF) which was published in December 2010 to provide an in-depth look at the nonprofit sector - its scope, its challenges, and its opportunities - as seen by Vermonters and our state's nonprofit leaders.
