"Why? Explaining the Holocaust" Peter Hayes, Professor of History Emeritus, Northwestern University
Despite much public and academic attention to the Holocaust, many people still find comprehending how it could happen quite difficult. Professor Hayes will provide historically grounded answers to two central, continuously troubling questions about the subject: Why were Jews attacked and killed? Why didn¿t any entity or organization prevent or lessen the murders? At a time when manifestations of antisemitism are resurgent at home and violent persecution is multiplying refugees and victims of state-sponsored violence abroad, the answers could not be more relevant to Americans today.
