Ben Langton is a recent graduate of the University of Vermont, receiving his B.S. degree in Environmental Studies from the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources.  As an undergraduate student, Ben was heavily involved in the campus community. He was an ENVS Peer Mentor, member of the Rubenstein Student Advisory Board, and a lead teaching assistant for NR 15 Ecology of Place.  He also worked closely with Sustainability House, leading workshops and community events and representing them for ResLife events at orientations and admitted student visit days. Athletically, he was an avid intramural sports participant and played on the men’s club volleyball team at UVM.  He also played with the UVM concert band and percussion ensemble.

Professionally, Ben has spent three years managing UVM’s ten Natural Areas.  The first two of these three years were completed as part of undergraduate internship opportunities through the Rubenstein Perennial Internship Program and for his ENVS Senior Capstone.  Ben has also performed ant ecology research in the Natural Areas, working with Nate Sanders. Ben has researched the distribution of accumulated plastic pollution on the shores of Lake Champlain for the Rozalia Project, as well.

As a Professional Advisor at the Environmental Program, Ben, alongside Karen Nordstrom, co-facilitates ENVS 101, a required academic planning workshop course for ENVS sophomores.  He plans to use his interest in ecology and experience with the Natural Areas to incorporate outdoor exploration and landscape natural history into his Professional Advisor role. Additionally, Ben leads a writing workshop for ENVS students on Wednesdays from 4-5pm in the Bittersweet House.
