In the tutorial about Choosing Your Settings, the recommended Discussion Settings were explained. If you chose these for your blog, you will be notified by email when someone has made a comment to a blog post. If this is the first time this user has commented, then you will need to approve their comment.
Note about detecting “comment spam”: A tactic used by many spammers is to make a generic complimentary comment. Be careful not to approve these, because once approved, there is a good chance your blog will be flooded by spam from the same address. Another clue is found by checking the email address or the website of the commenter – is it local, familiar, or relevant?
Example of Spam Comment
“This is a superb site that I will bookmark and revisit often!” posted by firstname.lastname@example.org with website address of “petfoodbargains.com”)
If you are sure that a comment is valid, you can select it and publish it.
