When students open your course in Blackboard, the announcements are, by default, the first things they see.

Announcements are an ideal way to post time-sensitive information, to inform students of changes to the course, canceled classes, exam schedules, reminders, and links to topical news articles, etc.

When you post an announcement, you can opt to also send the announcement to the class by email to their UVM accounts. Otherwise, Blackboard automatically sends an email alerting students that a new announcement has just been posted. (NOTE: Even if your course isn’t open to students yet, announcements will still be emailed to them if the box is checked.)
