Ally assists instructors in building a more inclusive learning environment and improving the overall student experience by assessing the level of accessibility of all instructor-uploaded content in Brightspace. Ally also provides guidance and tips for lasting improvements to content accessibility. In addition, Ally generates alternate formats to Brightspace course documents to meet different learner needs, abilities, and preferences.

Autism Goes to College is a podcast series featuring the voices of neurodiverse students, sharing insights about how they experience college.  We will be listening to episode 9, “When Professors are Helpful, It Really Helps.” It's about how one student’s visits to office hours helped both her and her professor figure out strategies to address her initial struggles in a research and methods class. Cal State Fullerton student, Caroline, and childhood and adolescent development professor, JudelMay Enriquez, discuss their experience and ways that instructors can reach out to students on the spectrum.

Brightspace Tools & Workflows for Grading & Feedback

This workshop provides an overview of strategies for grading student work and providing feedback. We’ll demonstrate tools to provide students feedback (inline grading, audio/video, rubrics),  different grading workflows, including Quick Eval, and a snapshot of Brightspace's automated feedback tool - Intelligent Agents. We'll also show how students can find their grades and feedback. Brightspace offers a flexible, intuitive interface for organizing and delivering course content. Thus, the move to Brightspace presents an opportunity to shift how we think about course design. During this workshop, we will highlight different approaches to structuring course materials in the Content area. We will cover some Content fundamentals as well as provide tips to guide you as you think about optimal ways to structure your course materials to create a cohesive experience for your students.

This workshop covers a number of Brightspace basics for beginners, including creating announcements, adding a syllabus and a module, and setting up and grading assignments. We’ll demonstrate the useful student view account and how to make your course available to students.

Understanding & Using Institutional Data with an Equity Lens to Transform Teaching

This workshop introduces structured ways to use institutional data to transform classrooms and learning experiences. It is led by Dr. Bryan Dewsbury, Associate Professor in Biology at Florida International University and Principal Investigator of the Science Education And Society (SEAS) research program and co-author of the recently released Norton Guide to Equity-Minded Teaching.  Dewsbury is a leader in research on the social context of teaching and learning, faculty development of inclusive practices, and programming to cultivate equity in education.
