Having Fun and Grabbing Interest in Large Remote Classes

Thursday, March 18, 2021 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

Free

Shifting large-enrollment courses to remote delivery has been challenging for many of us over the last year, especially because it’s hard to gauge student engagement. There are ways, however, that we can make the remote experience more fun for everyone, holding students’ attention and increasing learning.

If you’d like to make your remote teaching experience more enjoyable for both you and your students, join us for a panel discussion with CTL Faculty Associates who teach large-enrollment, remote courses.

We’ll discuss techniques to enliven remote classes, including using humor, music, and popular culture and we’ll share tips for:

  • planning ahead
  • coming prepared to socialize
  • managing the Team Chat for pre-class engagement and responses

In addition, we’ll highlight a few easily incorporated strategies related to assessments/exams to help keep that engagement going outside of class time.

There will be opportunities during this session to brainstorm solutions to challenges participants may be facing in their remote environments.

Panelists: Lizzy Pope, Sandy Wurthmann, Laura Almstead
Facilitator: Annie Murray-Close
