Researchers have documented the benefits of active learning activities, such as small group work and discussion, for student learning. However, it is not always obvious how the active learning techniques used in the traditional in-person classroom can be adapted for physically distanced learning environments. For instance, is discussion possible during synchronous, in-person sessions when students are wearing masks and 6 feet apart?

This hour offers faculty teaching in-person courses the opportunity to connect with colleagues to identify unique challenges of implementing active learning in the in-person modality and discuss potential strategies for addressing these challenges. This session will be an informal conversation based on prompts provided to session participants.
