Introduction to Direct Assessment

Thursday, January 25 2018
@ 1:00 PM- 2:30 PM

Participants should have taken parts 1 and/or 2 of the assessment series before taking this workshop.  Part 3 is also encouraged, but not required.

This workshop is open to chairs, program directors, assessment coordinators and faculty teams working on assessment in their program.  Due to the applied nature of the workshop, small teams are especially encouraged to attend.

This workshop focuses on how to select, collect, organize, and assess examples of student work to gauge student progress towards program-level learning outcomes. The workshop begins with a discussion of different ways to directly assess student progress towards learning outcomes, and helps participants identify possible assignments/assignment types that may be good candidates for direct assessment processes.

The workshop will also cover different approaches to evaluating student work as part of program-level assessment; planning and organizing a direct assessment session (e.g. rating day or targeted faculty discussion); and processing and making sense of the results of your direct assessment. Teams or chairs may wish to identify a particular outcome they would like to gather data on prior to attending the workshop.
