Brown Bag Reading Discussion: Internal Activism: Love, Anger & Liberation

Tuesday, April 18 2017
@ 12:00 PM- 1:00 PM

Black, queer poet and activist Audre Lorde once stated, “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” Why might it be important to turn one’s activism inward, focusing energy on healing and dismantling the oppressive systems we carry within us?

Join us as we unpack a rich, ten-page excerpt from the book “Radical Dharma: Talking Race, Love & Liberation.” This discussion is in preparation for a campus visit later in the month by one of the book’s author’s, Lama Rod Owens, who will be addressing the intersections between Buddhism, identity and social change. For more details regarding Lama Rod’s visit, see this page.

This discussion is sponsored by the Center for Teaching & Learning and the Interfaith Center. Please bring your lunch with you. Light snacks will be provided. Open to the entire UVM community. Registrants will be emailed copy of the reading excerpt.
