UVM Medical Laboratory and Radiation Sciences students learn to work at the intersection of human health, medicine, and technology and benefit from a curriculum that integrates courses in the humanities and basic health and medical sciences with hands-on experience through clinical practica, research, or field work. Additionally, opportunities for participation in travel study, undergraduate research and honors programs and clubs and professional organizations are widely available.

Research Programs

UVM Medical Laboratory Science faculty engage in both public health research and laboratory-based biological research, advancing the field in areas that include genetics and genomics of human disease, molecular signaling in cancer and cardiovascular disease, immunology, inflammatory responses to microbial pathogens, and quality assurance in public health.

Hands-on Learning

Department of Medical Laboratory and Radiation Sciences programs include clinical courses held at the University of Vermont Medical Center adjacent to UVM. In addition, each includes a one-semester practicum in the spring semester of the fourth year that takes place at one of our affiliated institutions, which are located throughout New England and eastern New York. Participation and successful completion of the practicum is a requirement for graduation.

Honors Programs

University of Vermont Honors College

Academically high-achieving students are invited to become part of the UVM Honors College when they are admitted to the University. Students already attending UVM may apply for admission in the spring of their first year.
