Strategic Communications Manager

Doug Gilman joined the College of Education and Social Services (CESS) Dean's Office in 2014. He is responsible for responsible for the design, coordination and implementation of strategic communications in alignment with UVM's Strategic Imperatives. Doug oversees and manages the College's website, social media channels, storytelling, newsletters, photography, yield communications, and various advertising and promotional efforts for undergraduate programs, graduate programs, continuing education, summer courses, and events.

Doug has more than 27 years of experience in program leadership, management, education, communications, and community relations. Prior to UVM, he served as the state director of the Starbase Vermont for 18 years, leading an innovative hands-on youth education program designed to increase student interest, knowledge and skills in science, technology, engineering and math. During his tenure, the program expanded throughout the state, serving over 22,000 students and 200 teachers from 70 schools in 32 districts. He also served as a volunteer on the non-profit Board of Directors for Starbase Vermont, Inc. During his time on the board, he served as President and as Treasurer. 

Doug is also a retired veteran with over 20 years of military service in the United States Air Force and the Vermont Air National Guard. 

Most importantly, he is a proud father of two daughters who are always his first priority.
