Alex serves as Coordinator of Student Services and Academic Advisor in the College of Education and Social Services (CESS) at UVM. She is the Office of Student Services’ first point of contact for resources, general advising, and academic program-related questions.
Working with the Director, Alex provides coordination for CESS prospective student and recruitment initiatives, FTFY Orientation, Degree Audits, data tracking and analysis, student experience activities, and Commencement events. She also develops and facilitates academic skill workshops.
Alex's role includes advising a cohort of FTFY students, monitoring student academic progress and change of status activity, notifying faculty when students are missing classes due to serious illness or emergencies, and connecting students and faculty to various colleagues, policies, services, programs, and resources. She oversees the office’s comprehensive communications, student services’ commons, and student employment model. Additionally, Alex collaborates with the Director of Student Services and with the Assistant Dean for Academic and Student Affairs on strategic initiatives related to fostering the CESS student experience.
After earning a B.S. in Mathematics with a grades 7-12 teaching endorsement from Doane University, Alex started her teaching career at Alliance High School (Nebraska) for three years. In 2016, she earned a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from her alma mater. Following this achievement, she spent another three years teaching grades 6-8 mathematics at Rawlins Middle School (Wyoming), then one year each at Adams Middle School (Nebraska) and Sidney High School (Nebraska). She is excited to use her secondary school background to help recruit and guide students through a holistic experience at UVM.
Originally from Nebraska, Alex recently moved to Vermont with her partner and her three-year old son. In her free time, she likes to train for triathlons, play volleyball, and cook.
