ME Weekly Grad Seminar: Brianna Weiss, B.S.: Custom-Engineered Pumps for the Nuclear Industry

October 18, 2019 @ 1:10 pm - 2:00 pm

Speaker: Brianna Weiss, B.S.

Title: Custom-Engineered Pumps for the Nuclear Industry

This presentation will give an overview of our company as a whole- Hayward
Tyler designs, manufactures, and services fluid-filled electric motors and
pumps for high-pressure, high-temperature applications and environments
across the global energy sector. We’ll also talk more specifically about
our location in Colchester, VT, where we focus on custom-engineering
horizontal and vertical pump and motor units primarily for use in the nuclear
power industry. Since graduating from UVM, I’ve been working on a project
for one of our newest applications, molten salt, where pumps will operate at
significantly higher temperatures than our typical designs, which requires
additional considerations and analyses. My role as a mechanical engineer at
Hayward Tyler exercises some of the important skills I’ve learned from my
education at UVM, such as Solidworks, design of elements, heat transfer, and
finite element analysis.

Students in Mechanical Engineering are joined weekly by various speakers on a wide array of topics. Updated information (and location) will be posted regularly. Check back soon!
