EBE Grad Seminar Weekly Talk: Dr. Mads Almassalkhi, EBE-UVM, cofounder of Packetized Energy

This week’s presenter is Dr. Mads Almassalkhi, EBE-UVM, cofounder of Packetized Energy. Talk Title:   I’m an Entrepreneurial Electrical Engineer (iEEE): from School to Startups

This (informal, mostly non-technical) talk will cover Dr. Almassalkhi’s path from undergrad to academia focusing on key lessons learned while working as an undergrad student, research grad school, changing PhD advisors/topics, consulting while in school, and post-PhD experiences and making career decisions.

Dr. Mads Almassalkhi’s Bio: Originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, Mads earned a PhD and MS in electrical engineering: systems from U Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI and a BSEE from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio with a dual major in Mathematics. Mads holds expertise in optimization, real-time control, and energy analytics. He previously led development of software technology at Root3 Technologies, including UX/UI design and predictive optimization and analytics. As an assistant professor at University of Vermont, he currently leads US Dept. of Energy funded efforts on advanced grid technologies and is co-founder of energy startup Packetized Energy that turns smart appliances into virtual batteries. He has built an international network of research and electricity industry partnerships. When Mads is not working on energy challenges or teaching, he is spending his time with his amazing wife and three wonderful children.

Each week, the graduate students in EBE engage with thought leaders around relevant, compelling topics. Speakers and locations will be posted on an ongoing basis.
