Assistant Professor of Sociology

Jennifer Lai (she/her) is a sociologist whose research areas include environmental sociology and feminist science studies. She examines knowledge production in multiple settings, including medicine, agriculture, and higher education. Current projects include investigating environmental factors associated with type 2 diabetes, and the impact of social infrastructure in rural communities. Jennifer teaches courses on the American health care system and intersectional methods. She also runs the Prospect Laboratory, whose main purpose is to introduce social theory and methods to undergraduate students curious about research. Jennifer earned her B.S. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from Purdue University in 2010 and her Ph.D. in Sociology from Michigan State University in 2021.
