As always, when applying for a position online, do not give out personal information (beyond your basic contact information) and don't agree to anything that makes you uncomfortable. If offered an interview, make sure that it takes place at the business's office or at a public place (like Starbucks). If you are worried about the authenticity of any job posting, stop, and get in touch with the Career Center so that they can help you validate it.

Step 2: Reaching out to sites that don't have posted openings
Even if a company doesn't have an internship position listed, it doesn't mean they don't need help! Here are some tips for you as you start to reach out to potential internship sites:
- Instead of asking for "an internship" ask them if you can help out with their most recent project. If asked for an internship, employers will often respond with a "no" if they don't have a program already set up. But by crafting your own position or offering your expertise, employers can better envision you as a part of their team!
- Develop a strong pitch: Describe yourself, your skills and goals; be brief, sincere and memorable.
- Mention that you are involved with the CAS Internship Program and will have a faculty mentor to support you and your potential supervisor or co-workers at the internship site. Feel free to include Sophia Trigg or Richard Watts' email address in your email so the organization can follow up with questions.
- If you are looking for a summer opportunity, mention that you will be applying funding from UVM to help support you while you do an unpaid opportunity - so being paid is not a necessity. In this economic climate, this can help relieve the burden on organizations you hope to work with.

"I worked to manage the song catalogue, note take, and create weekly event calendars for the staff. Through the various activities I completed, I grasped a better understanding of the professional work environment. With guidance, I learned more about computer and database usage, the importance of time management, communication skills, customer service, and organizational skills. I began this experience across the country in an unfamiliar area with minimal professional work experience and quickly transformed. I am now an individual who has experience in the working adult community and can handle the same responsibility as other, experienced professionals."
