Path to Career Success
To help students start thinking about their career paths in year one, we provide them with a ”road map” of small achievable steps that they can use their entire time at UVM. We recognize that no two paths are the same and not every path will be a straight line.
Career Quizzes, or CQs, are short annual check-ups to make sure students are on track. After each CQ, students will get an email with tailored resources and recommended next steps. Recommendations can also be sent to a parent, advisor, coach, mentor, etc.
Career Badging
Our career badging system is a new way for students to demonstrate their career exploration and readiness. Badges help track student progress as they reflect on their own skills and growth, build career readiness, expand their network, and develop an innovative and global mindset.
As students work through online modules and complete tasks, they build towards career readines.
Experiential Learning
Many of the skills you'll need for a future career will come from outside the classroom. Learning by doing is a great way to expand your skillset, push yourself to new levels and figure out what really excites you.
UVM offers many options for experiential learning.
Community-Engaged Learning
UVM has a variety of ways you can gain experience while giving back to communities in Burlington and beyond. Whether its community-engaged research, service-learning locally, or service-learning abroad, the skills you develop will be assets for whatever career you pursue.
Internships, Micro-internships and Co-ops.
Internships, micro-internships and co-ops offer valuable hands-on experience and opportunities to build skills outside fo the classroom. These opportunites might be paid, unpaid, for credit or not. Each college has a different process for experiential learning, but the Career Center Guide to Internships is a good place to start.
Research
The Fellowships, Opportunities, and Undergraduate Research (FOUR) office provides students oportunities to engage in research that impacts their communities and the world. Learn about the exciting opportunities available by visiting the FOUR website.
Study Abroad
