Welcome to the UVM College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS)!

I am new to UVM and Vermont, having started as Dean of CALS in mid-May 2020; some of you are undoubtedly new to UVM as well.

What attracted me to UVM was the energy and enthusiasm of everyone I met. The faculty, staff and students in are doing amazing, high impact work and are incredibly passionate about making a difference locally and around the world.

Our community of faculty, scholars, students and staff work together to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time. Here are a few examples of how our researchers are tackling current issues that are key to our future:

Our academic disciplines, undergraduate and graduate programs span the life and social sciences and provide educational and research opportunities from “cells to society.” The College is proudly home to UVM Extension, the state’s cooperative extension service, whose faculty and staff work throughout the state to help improve the quality of life of Vermonters through research-based educational programs and practical information.

I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our extensive educational, research and outreach activities.
