Senior Lecturer

Dr. Erickson is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at the University of Vermont. She was raised in New York’s Adirondacks Mountains where she began her life long love of animals and medicine. Prior to college she worked as a Zookeeper in Portland, Oregon where she participated in Jane Goodall’s Chimpanzoo Research Project. 

Dr. Goodall encouraged her to further her education. Dr. Erickson received her AS in Math and Science from North Country Community College, her BS in Animal Science from Cornell University and her DVM also from Cornell in 1997. After veterinary school, Dr. Erickson practiced general and emergency medicine in the Saratoga Springs, NY area for 5 years where she was part owner of an emergency practice. In 2002, she arrived at UVM to begin development of the companion and zoo animal courses offered at UVM. 

Over the past 16 years, she has developed 12 courses including summer courses and international travel offerings. She is the past Associate Dean for the College of Agriculture. She continues to practice veterinary medicine in her home town during the summer months. She also serves on the Cornell Veterinary Alumni Executive Board and is a past Trustee of the Conservation and Research Foundation. Dr. Erickson and her husband (Jon Erickson,PhD ) also own and operate a horse farm in Vermont.
