Associate Professor

Steve Gove (Ph.D., Arizona State University) is an Associate Professor with an emphasis on strategic management. Dr. Gove's research interests include construct measurement in corporate governance, the spread of stigma and stigmatizing practice between firms, faculty productivity and influence, and management education. His research has been published in outlets including Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Corporate Governance: An International Review, Organizational Research Methods, Journal of Management Studies, Corporate Governance: An International Review, Journal of Management Education, Journal of Business Ethics, Business & Society, Journal of the Academy of Business Education, and Journal of Quality Management. Dr. Gove's work has been presented internationally at the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, the Strategic Management Society Annual International Conference, Babson College Kauffman Foundation Entrepreneurship Research Conference, and the Annual Meeting of the North American Case Research Association among others. His work with co-authors Brian Boyd and Michael Hitt published in SMJ received the 2011 Sage Publications/Robert McDonald Advancement of Organizational Research Methodology Award by the Research Methods Division of the Academy of Management.

He serves as the elected treasurer of the Academy of Management’s Research Methods division and formerly served as representative at large for the Strategic Management Society’s research methods community. He is an associate editor at Organizational Research Methods and co-edited a forthcoming special issue of Corporate Governance: An International Review on research methods in corporate governance. He previously served on the editorial boards of Academy of Management Journal and Corporate Governance: An International Review. He has reviewed for journals including Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Organizational Research Methods, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Management Research, Journal of Management Studies, Management Teaching Review, and Journal of Management Education. He was named reviewer of the year for Corporate Governance: An International Review and has received multiple Outstanding Reviewer Awards from the Academy of Management.

Before joining UVM Dr. Gove was on the faculty at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia and was a faculty associate at Arizona State University's Main and West campuses. He has taught a range of courses at the undergraduate, MBA, and doctoral level in strategic management, competitive intelligence, and international management. Dr. Gove received Virginia Tech's 2012 Warren Lloyd Holtzman Outstanding Educator of the Year award and Pamplin College of Business 2012 Certificate of Teaching Excellence. He is a member of the Strategic Management Society, Academy of Management, Southern Management Association, and North American Case Researchers Association.
