Dr. Jesse retired effective June 1, 2011. He came to UVM in 1983 from Auburn University where he taught for five years. Prior to Auburn, he spent six years on the faculty of the University of Florida. Dr. Jesse earned his B.S.E. from Princeton University in 1968, M.B.A. from Cornell University in 1971, and Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1973. His teaching and research interests are in the areas of production/operations management and management science/operations research. His publications include articles in Management Science, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of the Operational Research Society, International Journal of Production Research, Decision Sciences, Production and Inventory Management, and The Review of Economics and Statistics. Dr. Jesse served as member or chair of over 30 committees while at UVM. He gained recognition as Certified Fellow in Production and Inventory Management by the American Production and Inventory Control Society in 1982. In 1989-1990 Dr. Jesse held the position of Advisory Faculty Chair in the Industrial Engineering Methods and Systems Analysis Department at IBM Burlington where he led the development and implementation of a linear-programming-based daily scheduling system for a memory wafer chip fabrication line.
