<\/span><span class=\"s3\">was held on July<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> 15 and 16. \u00a0The focus <\/span><span class=\"s3\">centered on governance, power, and equity in regional food systems<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> and<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> leverag<\/span><span class=\"s3\">ed<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> participants&#8217; The Knoll Farm Barn was salvaged, taken down, moved piece by piece by oxen and resurrected on its current location in 1923 by the McLaughlin family.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-6a4b559 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"6a4b559\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-c167b29\" data-id=\"c167b29\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7b14f48 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7b14f48\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t<p><span class=\"s3\">\u201cRegional approaches to organizing food systems have received a lot of attention <\/span><span class=\"s3\">and<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> we are interested in centering these concepts and their focus on <\/span><span class=\"s3\">holistic approaches to systems change, human rights, equity<\/span><span class=\"s3\">,\u201d says Colin Anderson, associate director of the Institute of Agroecology at University of Vermont.<\/span> <span class=\"s3\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"s3\">In this way, we can address the root problems that are undermining sustainability and justice in the food system and work towards the social and political transformation needed to foster just and sustainable food systems\u201d.<\/span><\/p><p><span class=\"s3\">Specifically, the<\/span> <span class=\"s3\">workshop delved into regional governance<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> across <\/span><span class=\"s3\">all of<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> its discussions<\/span><span class=\"s3\">, emphasizing multi-actor and cross-sector coordination. <\/span><span class=\"s3\">As discussed, this<\/span> <span class=\"s3\">approach leads to new institutional arrangements, visions, policy changes, and markets while fostering democracy, justice, innovation, and strengthening civil society. A particular focus was placed on understanding issues of governance, power, and equity in<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> the<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> region<\/span> <span class=\"s3\">through novel research approaches that can be leveraged by on-the-ground actors to effect change.<\/span><\/p><p><span class=\"s3\">While New England was the focal region, the workshop included case studies, perspectives, and participants from other geographies. Several case studies from the <a href=\"https:\/\/cordis.europa.eu\/project\/id\/101007755\">International ATTER Project<\/a>, which explores efforts to scale up agroecological transitions in European, American, and Brazilian territorial food systems, were discussed.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-40aa9be elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" class=\"s3\"><b>ing, Connecting, and Collaborating<\/b>. They deepened<\/span> <span class=\"s3\">their\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s3\">understanding of transformative approaches to regional food systems<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> with one another; built<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> and strengthen<\/span><span class=\"s3\">ed their\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s3\">relationships <\/span><span class=\"s3\">across the region and the country<\/span><span class=\"s3\">, including dialogue, food, outdoor activities, and field visits<\/span><span class=\"s3\">; and explored <\/span><span class=\"s3\">opportunities for new partnerships, projects, publications, and lines of work.<\/span><\/p><p><span class=\"s3\">For example, we will be holding an online seminar on regional food systems where Claire Lamine and Karine Nunes will be presenting about work on territorial food systems and agroecology in France and Brazil (sign up <\/span><span class=\"s3\">for our newsletter <\/span><span class=\"s3\">to receive notices about this event and others like it). <\/span><\/p><p><span class=\"s3\">Among the notable outcomes was the design of a new project on food democracy experiments. This initiative brings together five ATTER partners: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inrae.fr\/en\">National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment, France (INRAE)<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/\">University of Vermont (UVM)<\/a>, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/urgenci.net\/\"><span class=\"s3\">Urgenci<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s3\"> International Network for Community Supported Agriculture, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fian.org\/en\/\">Food First Information and Action Network (FIAN)<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ufrrj.br\/\">Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro<\/a> (UFRRJ),<\/span><span class=\"s3\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">plus <a href=\"https:\/\/foodsolutionsne.org\/\">Food Solutions New England<\/a> (FSNE), thanks to the exchanges held during the workshop.<\/span><span class=\"s3\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s3\">Claire Lamine, the principle investigator of this project explained,<\/span><span class=\"s3\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s5\">\u201cThis project will carry out action research on efforts in Brazil, the USA and France to deepen democracy in food systems by creating new ways for citizens to participate in<\/span><span class=\"s5\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s6\">designing and<\/span><span class=\"s5\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s5\">making decisions on policy and programs that shape their food systems.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section
