POLS 293 – Senior Honors Seminar I

Credits: 3.00

Course Description: Examination of major contemporary research topics in political science. Admission by invitation only.

Section Description: The Senior Honors Seminar is an opportunity to look at political science as it is practiced by the members of the UVM political science faculty. The core of the course involves visits to the seminar by many members of the department. Most Tuesdays, a member of the faculty will join us to discuss a piece of his or her own scholarly work. I will distribute this reading material to you on the Tuesday preceding the faculty member's visit. You and I will read it in preparation for Thursday's class, during which we will discuss the material. Each faculty member will have provided a question or questions with his or her material, and you will be responsible for writing (many, not all, weeks) a brief essay in response to this/these to be handed in on Tuesday. The faculty member will join us to discuss this work on that day as well. In addition to these response papers, we may read, discuss and write about a small number of other important works in political science.
