PRNU 198 – Undergraduate Research

Course Description: Undergraduate student work on individual or small team research projects under the supervision of a faculty member, for which credit is awarded. Offered at department discretion.

Section Description: Overview: Students taking this independent study course will begin the first steps of the research process on a selected project, including searching relevant literature, writing a literature review, and drafting an IRB application. Students will be expected to complete a literature review and to submit an application to the IRB at the end of the semester. Objectives: At the end of this semester, students will be able to: 1. Define search terms and describe strategies to search research databases on a selected topic. 2. Synthesize current literature on a selected topic. 3. Identify gaps in current literature on a selected topic. 4. Describe the rationale for using a specific research methodology based on the research question. 5. Describe strategies to protect participant confidentiality when collecting data online, storing data, and analyzing data.
