Course Description: Through classroom and practicum, students learn essential nursing interventions for children/adolescents/ families experiencing health alterations. Prerequisites: PRNU 128, PRNU 129, NURS 120. Pre/co-requisite: PRNU 131.
Section Description: This course focuses on the human experience of children/ adolescents with alterations in health. An integration of theory, research, and practice will be utilized to cover (1) illnesses, (2) engage in anticipatory guidance with patients and their families for the purposes of disease prevention, and (3) deliver individualized nursing care according to the patient’s biochemical, physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs. The goal of child/ adolescent health nursing is a coordinated effort that is atraumatic, family-centered, developmentally appropriate and community- based with a national and global reach. An emphasis is upon nursing care that is sensitive and responsive to the beliefs, practices and strengths of a diverse population.
