Nick Stanton: Director, UVM Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity

Nick Stanton was appointed as Director for Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity in 2017. Prior to this, he served as the Title IX Coordinator and Investigator for AAEO. Before coming to UVM, Nick practiced law in a variety of settings, focusing on civil rights, employment, and municipal law for Vermont Legal Aid, Disability Rights Vermont, and Monaghan Safar Ducham PLLC. He received a J.D. from Vermont Law School and a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology from Johnson State College (Northern Vermont University).

Emily McCarthy: Title IX Coordinator and Investigator

Emily serves as the campus Title IX Coordinator, and investigates complaints of discrimination, harassment, and Title IX violations within the UVM community. Emily served as an AAEO investigator and alternative resolution faciltator from 2017-2022. Prior to working at UVM, Emily worked as a Deputy State’s Attorney in Chittenden County, where she assisted with domestic and sexual assault cases. In that role, Emily worked closely with the Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations (CUSI). Emily earned a B.A. in History from the University of Colorado and a J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School.
Kate Spence: Investigator and Alternative Resolution Facilitator

Kate investigates complaints of alleged discrimination, harassment, and Title IX violations within the UVM community. Prior to working at UVM, Kate practiced law in a variety of non-profit settings, where she provided legal services to indigent persons experiencing domestic violence or housing insecurity, and investigated human rights violations in the areas of public employment, public accommodations, and housing. Kate earned a B.A. in French Language and Literature from Barnard College, and and a J.D. from Northeastern School of Law.
Amber Fulcher: ADA/504 Coordinator

Amber coordinates faculty and staff accommodation requests under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and works on broad campus initiatives for accessibility and ADA compliance.
