The UVM Writing Center is a place where anyone from the UVM community can meet with an undergraduate peer tutor at any point in the writing process. There are several ways in which this service can support a faculty member's work with students on their writing. To arrange for any of the services below (or just to talk about working with students on their writing), call Sue Dinitz at 656-7963, or e-mail her.
WE CAN:
WHAT THE TUTORS DO:
Tutors are trained to help students develop as writers. Tutors will not write or edit papers for students. In many cases, the tutor and student may not be able to address all of the ways in which a paper could be improved in a one-hour session. Don't be surprised if papers of students who have been to the Writing Center still have problems and contain errors.
IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A HANDOUT ON SOME ASPECT OF WITING:
Many handouts on topics such as genres of writing, types of assignments, the writing process, documentation, and style and usage are available on the Web. Go back to the Writing Center Homepage and follow the link to "Resources Available on the Web."
WAYS TO ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO USE THE WRITING CENTER:
Include information about the Writing Center in your syllabus.
